McDonald’s Unveils New Oreo Shamrock McFlurry to Celebrate 50 Years of the Shamrock Shake

With St. Patty’s Day just around the corner, many are anticipating the launch of the annual Shamrock Shake at McDonald’s! But this is a special year! McDonald’s celebrates 50 years of the Shamrock Shake and to kick off the celebrations they’re introducing an all-new Oreo Shamrock McFlurry. Additionally, for the first time since 2017, McDonald’s will also launch the Shamrock Shake nationwide. Get ready for an unreal treat.

For those that haven’t been lucky enough to try a McDonald’s Shamrock Shake, it’s essentially a perfect blend of creamy vanilla soft serve and mint flavor and is topped with whipped topping. The all-new Oreo Shamrock McFlurry will feature the classic flavors of the iconic Oreo McFlurry with a minty spin. Both minty treats will be available across the country for a limited time starting February 19, 2020.

“We’ve been serving the iconic, cult-favorite Shamrock Shake for 50 years and it’s become synonymous with McDonald’s ever since,” said McDonald’s Vice President of Menu Innovation Linda VanGosen. “We’re excited to serve up a new way to experience the one-of-a-kind Shamrock flavor in our new OREO Shamrock McFlurry. Our chefs worked to get the perfect balance of OREO cookies and mint for this new delicious dessert. We can’t wait for customers to get a taste this spring.”

Hal Rosen, Connecticut McDonald’s Owner and Operator, first introduced the Shamrock Shake in 1970 in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. The drink was such a hit that the sales from the drink went to help build the first Ronald McDonald House (a place that provides families of sick children with a home while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital). Since then over 60 million Shamrock Shakes have been sold creating a dedicated fan-base. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for February 19th to have a chance to try the new McFlurry flavor!
