Food Trend: Craft Butters & The Best Recipes To Try
When I was a child, my Mom used to theme each week with something new so that we would learn about cultures, the planet, nature, foods and much more. There’s one week, in particular, that was always my favorite, and that was Pioneer week. Simply because I knew we would get to make homemade butter. Simply using heavy (or “whipping”) cream in a mason jar, we would sit and shake and shake until the cream would become thick. Then we’d shake it some more until it had become whipped cream. Then continue that shake, and suddenly, almost magically – the cream would separate. There would be butter, and the clearish looking milk called buttermilk. Drain it off, and mix with salt…and we had made butter. It tastes nothing like the kinds of butter I’d had from the store. It was so much more creamy, flavorful, and rich. If it wasn’t for all the shaking, I’d might of made it daily just for a taste of it.
Jump to now, and craft butter is becoming a thing. But it’s not just shaking cream in mason jars, it’s infusing it with flavors to create new and incredible combinations that you probably couldn’t even imagine. When it comes to trying this out for yourself, here’s the best recipes we found to suggest you try!

Yes, even vegans can get in on the action of homemade butter. While it seems like margarine would be the obvious choice for vegans, most kinds of margarine actually still contain dairy – making it a rather frustrating thing to replicate.
That said, this recipe combines coconut oil, non-dairy unsweetened milk (such as almond, or oat) along with some canola or olive oil and some sea salt to create a butter in a blender that is just as glorious as the regular kind.
